New Bee-ginnings … (11 September 2018)

39499305_10214565952196899_4186939647210815488_o.jpgSo, it finally happened; I am a beekeeper.  Funny how life presents the right opportunity, at the right time.  I am actually not new to beekeeping, and initially dabbled back in the early 2000s, when I was still a newcomer to Cornwall and constraints led me try for a couple of years but then let it go.  The time was not right.  But it’s something I’ve been wanting to get back into for a while, and towards the end of last year (2017) I was lucky enough to win a place on the Eat Natural Pollenation Initiative , providing the opportunity to return and pick up where I left off nearly two decades ago.  41611697_243791492998922_4876058731718115328_n.jpgFast Forward to the time of writing, as summer 2018 draws to a close, and I am now the proud custodian of not one but two healthy and active hives of bees, together located in a secluded garden enclosure to the rear of a rather lovely west Cornwall B&B.  It’s been a stop-start process, a major learning curve, and one that is set to continue as we now head towards winter with the bees preparing to survive the coming colder months – and me preparing to support them through it, to hopefully all come out the other end, with honey production for us all together in mind!
